Woman in Lotus Pose

Dear Yogis,

My heart and my thoughts are with anyone who is suffering, struggling or supporting during this global crisis.

As soon as news of gym and studio closures was announced, there was a rush of teachers setting up online classes and I initially wondered whether I could provide some continuity and support for my students by continuing my classes online.

However, I have realised that, for me, this has been a time to step back and take stock, to allow the enormity of what is happening in the world to fully sink in. As such it has been a time for me to move inwards, for introspection and thought while I process what is taking place.

I have decided that I will not be offering online classes at this time and I wish you and your loved ones health, peace and resilience throughout this global crisis.

There are lots of wonderful classes online from local teachers and beyond. If you are looking for inspiration and variety in your practice and for really detailed instruction, I particularly recommend these two subscription channels:

Kino McGregor's website:

Kino is an Ashtanga trained teacher but her website also features other teachers and different styles of yoga

And another subscription channel that I love is Yoga International - again lots of styles and different teachers:

Both websites offer free trial periods so it's worth a go.

I totally know how hard it can be to find enough space and motivation to practice at home but the above sites are great if you can. Otherwise, any movement  - just a short walk each day, in nature, is fabulous. Moving, stretching, breathing in some fresh air for any time we can manage.

In terms of supporting our emotional and mental health in these times, there are, again, plenty of resources online that I use.

I particularly love Andy Puddicombe, the founder of Headspace. You can find Ted Talks from Andy and lots of science from him and his team to back up the benefits of meditation. Headspace have an app for your phone and are offering free meditations during this time of global crisis:

I also have great admiration for Eckhart Tolle, the author of The Power of Now and who I find really calming and helpful. Here's a short video from him too:

Wishing you and your loved ones peace and health in these difficult times.

In these classes, we move through sequences of classical yoga postures that develop strength and flexibility in our physical bodies. I incorporate flowing sequences and like to create an immersive atmosphere filling the studio with fabulous aromas, music. essential oils and the option of some hands on relaxation towards the end of the class.
